Article Submissions
The Birkbeck Law Review carefully considers all papers that it receives. Each paper is reviewed anonymously. At least two editors review every submission, and most papers go through substantially more stages of review, including faculty peer review and a vote by the Editorial Board of the Review prior to acceptance.
Authors will be notified whether their paper has been selected for inclusion. Please be patient when submitting an article. We publish one general issue per year and our review process is lengthy. This ensures that we can maintain our editorial quality standards but, as a result, we are often unable to make quick decisions in response to submissions.
Submissions Criteria
The Editorial Board invites submissions from all areas of law. As part of the selection process, priority will be given to articles presenting a critical or interdisciplinary approach to legal questions. We especially encourage submissions which are original and innovative, and those which provide some added value to on-going legal debates both in the UK and internationally.
Articles, book reviews, case studies and commentaries are acceptable material for submission. All articles submitted should be between 4,000 and 10,000 words (book reviews and commentaries should be between 3,000 and 5,000). You should also include an abstract of around 250-300 words outlining your proposed paper. Documents must only include identifying information on the cover page.
Please ensure your work complies with our submission guidelines and uses the OSCOLA referencing system.
